Heading North East, one can discover the delightful
forest of Frakto, known as “the Virgin Forest”
as it has been able to develop naturally and left unharmed
by human interference, therefore retaining an undisturbed
character.

| |
The forest is under a European preservation programme
due to the ecological and historical value. It is the
only such forest in the country and is considered one
of the most important in Europe, since 1980 the only
human activity permitted in the 11 million square metres
is that of scientific work. |

It is possible to enjoy and relax in this forest
and there is an operational centre 8.5 km from the border
of the virgin forest. |

|
The characteristics of the forest include a uniquely striking
beauty, strong geological formations and even a certain harshness
and wildness in the atmosphere. Frakto forest has been described
as having an unfamiliar landscape leaving any visitor with
a sense of discovery and completeness due to the density of
plants, beauty of the landscape, fruit bearing vegetation,
deciduous and evergreens, wild flowers and the considerable
geological and hydrological structures. |
| |
For some people, perhaps the most impressive features worth
visiting are the six Waterfalls formed by the many streams
and formations of the forest, will leave any visitor in ore
of the area and a scene never to be lost from your memory. |
