The main Town of the area is that of Kavala, described
by the Greeks as "an amphitheatre of liveliness"
or the "Lady of Macedonia". Kavala carefully
combines history and tradition with a modern, cosmopolitan
atmosphere which can be enjoyed in various ways throughout
the year.

Here you can meet with the locals in a lost Village and
sample the local delicacies, wander through the ancient streets
and amongst the Castle and the next minute find yourself mid
the busy coffee shops and shopping centre or in the famous
Ichthyoscala (fish-pier) enjoying the days catch or observing
the local fishermen preparing for a night of fishing. |

Another interesting Town is that of Xanthi, a small market
town with a distinct Asian feel to it on the way to the Turkish
borders. Here you will find many cultures living in harmony
together amongst the old cobbled streets with some impressive
mansions, some of which are restored whilst others allowed
to become derelict. Xanthi is the home of the street fair
every Saturday which is visited by all the races of the population. |
